Crime Scene Awareness
Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 118.04(3)(g) requires that all SAR personnel possess knowledge of crime scene recognition, evidence recognition, human remains recognition and the provisions of RCW 68.50.010, 68.50.020, and 68.50.050. By agreement of King County Sheriff's Office, and the unit leaders of King County Search and Rescue Association, an initial course must be taken within one year of joining a member unit, and before an individual may participate in a mission outside of King County.
Field members must participate in a minimum of 12 crime scene mission-hours every three years, or re-take this course. Member Units may enforce higher standards within their own organization.
This three-hour class presents participants with what to expect in and around a crime scene, lessons learned from previous evidence searches, and visual real life examples of evidence including human remains within natural environments.
