Mission Time
Within King County Search and Rescue Association, time spent working on search and rescue missions can help volunteer rescuers meet their training requirements. Some of the specifics can vary from requirement to requirement, so please read the following carefully:
- Map & Compass - twelve hours of time spent on a search or rescue mission in the field, qualifies as a three-year refresher for the Map & Compass requirement. The member must have already satisfied their initial requirement through the KCSARA Academy or unit training. And, we encourage everyone to take a full course now and then to re-familiarize yourself with infrequently used skills.
- SAR Survival - twelve hours of time spent on a search or rescue mission in the field, qualifies as a three-year refresher for the SAR Survival requirement. The member must have already satisfied their initial requirement through the KCSARA Academy or unit training. However, the SAR Survival course at the KCSARA Academy has been completely revamped and continues to evolve. The SAR Survival Course Manager, John Kemple, does a really outstanding job and anyone who hasn't already should consider taking this course, "just for the fun of it".
- SAR Techniques - twelve hours of time spent on a search or rescue mission in the field, qualifies as a three-year refresher for the SAR Techniques requirement. The member must have already satisfied their initial requirement through the KCSARA Academy or unit training.
- Crime Scene Awareness - twelve hours of time spent on evidence search mission, qualifies as a three-year refresher for the Crime Scene Awareness requirement. The member must have already satisfied their initial requirement through the KCSARA Academy.
Helicopter Safety, First Aid, CPR, and Pathogen Awareness are not refreshable though mission participation.
